Restylane & Perlane
Restylane® and Perlane® are FDA approved safe and natural dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid that temporarily restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds. Collagen is a protein that is found naturally in your body to give support to your skin. With time (or accelerated by sun or smoke damage), your body's collagen weakens forming wrinkles in skin. Both Restylane® and Perlane® help to replenish the skin's natural collagen support layer and provide additional support. The result is a smoother face.
Perlane is composed of larger gel particles than Restylane and is intended for deeper injections than Restylane to volumize skin for structural support and lift. Your physician can best determine which treatment is right for you.
Administration involves using a small needle to inject the Restylane or Perlane directly into the mid to deep dermis to fill the wrinkle or fold. The injections typically on take about 15 minutes. Results are seen immediately.
Although anesthesia is not required, an injectable anesthesia (similar to what is used in dental offices) is typically recommended to reduce any discomfort. An ice pack may be used to reduce any swelling following the injection.
Restylane® effects last about six months and Perlane® effects last at least six months.
