| What is PALs?
Power-assisted liposuction refers to a technology whereby a powerized cannula moves back and forth through the fat tissue in a rapid motion. The vibration loosens fat cells so that they may be suctioned away gently with less trauma to the surrounding tissue. PALs is performed using the tumescent technique. This involves using large volumes of saline, local anesthesia, and adrenaline. This maximizes the effectiveness of the fat removal and patient comfort. PALs has several important advantages over other forms of liposuction including increased safety, decreased anesthesia time, less bruising, faster recovery, increased efficacy, and greater precision.
How do SmartLipo and PALs work together?
The Aspasia medical team specializes in combining SmartLipo with PALs. The procedure is done in a 3-step process. First the SmartLipo fiber is inserted under the skin and is used to coagulate blood vessels and rupture fat cells. Next PALs is used to gently suction out the fat deposits. Finally SmartLipo is used again to sculpt and blend the areas. Patients get the benefit of body sculpting and skin tightening from the SmartLipo, plus the removal of fat deposits from the PALs.
Who is a good candidate for PALs?
The best candidates are in good health, have tried diet and exercise, have a BMI of 30% or less, have localized fat deposits in their body, and have realist expectations.
Which areas of the body are most frequently treated with PALs?
The most frequent areas treated by PALs are flanks, breasts, abdomen, thighs, hips, gluteal fold, knees, jowls, and chin.
Is the fat reduction permanent?
PALs permanently removes fat cells to improve your body's contour. Should you gain weight after your PALs procedure, it goes to the fat cells that remain in your body.
What will my recovery be like?
The majority of patients experience some bruising and swelling. A pressure dressing or compression garment is used to decrease swelling. Rest is recommended for at least 24 hours after procedure, after which you may gradually increase your activity, including exercise, as tolerated. Most patients return to work two days after surgery. Some patients will require a stitch at the incision sites which will be removed 7-10 days after the procedure.
Does PALs remove cellulite?
Although many patients do notice an improvement in the appearance of cellulite after the fat cells are removed, liposuction is not a treatment for cellulite.
What about results?
Cosmetically speaking, successful liposuction is measured in inches rather than pounds. The weight removed is not as important as the improvement in your body's contour. The changes following liposuction are similar to what you would expect if you could lose an equal amount of localized fat through diet and exercise alone.
