Juvederm
Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler that provides a long lasting correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is created by Allergan - the manufacturer of Botox®. Juvederm is the only hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to one year. Common uses include filling the nasolabia fold (the creases that run from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth) and for augmentation of the lips.
Administration involves using a small needle to inject the Juvederm directly into the mid to deep dermis to fill the wrinkle or fold to "plump up" the area. The injections typically take about 15 minutes. Results are seen immediately.
Although anesthesia is not required, an injectable anesthesia (similar to what is used in dental offices) is typically recommended to reduce any discomfort. An ice pack may be used to reduce any swelling following the injection.
